River Cruises in Ireland

A good alternative to a holiday on the roads in Ireland is a Shannon cruise.

There you can spend a week on the rivers and lakes around our longest river Shannon and enjoy cruising, fishing, sightseeing, cycling and golf.

This type of a holiday would be much more popular, if people wouldn’t be so nervous about the handling of these big cruisers.

People are nervous that the boats might be too big, the locks are too narrow, the current is too strong, the potential for rain is too high, the price is too much and above all they don’t have a boat driving license.

But there is no reason to be scared or being nervous about anything.

Let’s start with the boat driving license:  There is no license required to drive these type of boats in Ireland. This wouldn’t be the case if it would be too dangerous – what do you think?

The other issues are also no reason to be nervous. The current on the Shannon is very low, the boats are built to such a high standard, safety and comfort, the locks and jetties  are so well designed that even inexperienced “boat captains” can master these challenges.

Especially with groups – the rate for a one weeks cruise won’t be higher per person than staying in a good hotel.

It is also possible to rent a fishing rod to catch to prepare your own food or a bicycle to explore the areas around the many jetties alongside the waterways.

This type of holiday is also quite interesting for golfers as there are enough golf courses close by, with two where you can moor directly at the golf course.
